Birdwood & Kids

One of the biggest pain points when travelling with kids is keeping them entertained when not out and about.

I think a lot of parents found the introduction of Airbnb a bit of a blessing. Rather than a hotel with adjoining rooms, parents now had the freedom of being away with the comforts, conveniences and amenities of being at home.

Having two small children of our own we know what it’s like to travel with them. They may be small but they seem to require a lot of things so we have tried to make it easy for our guests.

Everyone had a ball - the grounds were great for the kids - as was the loft play area which is simply a dream area for the kids (and adults!)

The Play Room

The play room is located on the third floor loft of the residence and it is packed full of things to entertain children from 6 months to big kid or kids at heart. Parents of younger children can feel comfortable knowing there is a baby gate at the top of the stairs to prevent the little ones escaping (please supervise your children at all times).

The upstairs 3rd floor is a paradise for kids - best playroom hands down of any rental we’ve stayed at. Example of the level of detail by the host - there is a “birdwood cafe” for the kids to pretend to run a a mini cafe (in a turret!) and the menu in the cafe for items to order matches the food in the play kitchen.

Toddler gym Margaret River

There are a variety of wooden toys for this age group located in baskets at the bottom of the bookshelves on the TV side of the loft. Toys include musical instruments, soft toys and large lego blocks.

In the drawers of the TV cabinet you will also find a collection of Baby Einstein DVDs that are great for this age group.

The play room has a soft hide and play gym, a ball pit and slide and plastic rocker that can entertain one to three children at a time.

If your child can stand and walk then the wooden train table will also be a hit.

Birdwood Play Room

The Birdwood Market and Cafe is a favourite with kids, parents, grandparents (and in one case great grandparents!). Guests love being able to sit back and watch their kids role play with a variety of roles to take on including, market stall vendor, chef, waiter, restaurant guest and there is also a doctors outfit complete with all the kit.

Older kids

We find most older kids have their own devices but we have an Xbox with plenty of games for all ages. Our TV is loaded with a Netflix account and if you can’t find what you are looking for on Netflix we have an amazing DVD collection complete with box sets.

If you you are on a technology detox then there are plenty of board games and a Mahjong set complete with instructions so you can test out your Game Theory like in the movie Crazy Rich Asians.

The children’s playroom at the attic had a lovely lovely setup and my kids enjoyed it very much. An infant utilities set was also provided (including baby monitor) so that was a nice touch.
