OUR RECENT HISTORY

Birdwood Estate traces its origins back to its humble beginnings as a small manager's cottage situated on the grounds of 'Birdwood Farm'. The estate also encompassed the adjacent property at that time, Cape Lodge which was recently acquired by Andrew “Twiggy” Forrest.

Established initially as a protea farm by Tony Bird, a British resident who had spent several years in Rhodesia, the property underwent significant transformations over the years.

Following its subdivision and subsequent sale, the modest cottage underwent a remarkable metamorphosis, evolving into the splendid residence it stands as today. The property's European owner drew inspiration from the magnificent Queen Anne Federation houses found in many of the older suburbs of Perth. As a Master Builder of Swiss heritage, he spent years collecting and salvaging materials, including our magnificent beams, salvaged from the old Westralia Train tracks.
